Cantrell’s Computer Sales & Service has provided “green” computers and laptop computers since our inception in 1998.  We believe our method of refurbishing used notebook and desktop computers, and returning them to the marketplace is more environmentally friendly than breaking apart the used computers and recycling the components, plastics and metals.  Therefore, refurbishing used computer products is our first choice.  If refurbishing is not an option, we then recycle the computer products in the most responsible manner.

Call us first if you are planning to upgrade your existing computer equipment.  We purchase used computer equipment from local Contra County businesses and residents if we can refurbish the product and return it to the marketplace.  The value you receive from selling your computer equipment to us can be used to offset the costs of the new computer equipment.  You can be part of a Win-Win-Win-Win scenario (yes 4 Wins!).  The used computer equipment seller, the buyer of the refurbished computer equipment, Cantrell’s Computer Sales & Service, and the environment are all winners!

Our commitment to not just offer environmentally friendly products, but to operate in a green building was formalized when Cantrell’s Computer Sales and Service was certified as a Contra Costa County Green Business in 2005. Becoming green certified was a personal mission of the owners, Wade and Betty Cantrell.  We found that the process to become green certified was not difficult because of the support of Allied Waste, PG&E, and other entities that reviewed what we did.  “It took a little time and money, but nowhere what I thought it would be,” stated Wade Cantrell. PG&E assisted by upgrading the lighting to be more energy efficient. Other improvements included installing high efficiency toilets, a low flow aerator on faucet, using recycled paper, and recycling as much as possible. We now have a big recycling container and a tiny garbage can because we are recycling much more than before.  Cantrell’s Computer Sales and Service became the first computer shop in Contra Costa County to be green certified. “It’s been good for my business from a cost-effective point of view, and I think it attracts local customers who are environmentally aware,” Wade said. “If you can be green and save customers money, it’s a winning combination.” They were a featured business in the Contra Costa Green Business Program’s May 2012 publication.
